In my Author Era

Hey its me again! It’s been too long, but I’m finally back to share what I’ve been working on that’s been keeping me from my blog posts. So. Here it is.

I’m writing a book!!!

Still can’t believe I’m actually saying that!!

Back in October of last year I started dreaming big with Jesus and allowing Him to really emphasize to me what things I love and why I love them. The main thing I ended up realizing was that it is specific to me that I love the things that I do and that He planted that in me for a specific purpose. So I’m writing a book. A book about plants and Jesus and how a life with Him is really similar to the different stages of caring for plants. The cultivating, the sowing seeds, the watering, the pruning… all of it and more!

I believe the Lord is teaching me so much through taking on this project and I am praying that as I spill out the words of my heart, and His, on to the pages that others will be able to see Him in a new light as well. I’m not going to give too much away yet, as it still has a long way to go, but here is a little sneak peak from my “Watering” chapter that I’m working on.

“For a little context, the seasons in Chiang Mai go: cold season, hot season/smokey season, rainy season, and then back around. As I’m writing this it’s March, therefore, we haven't had rain in probably 5 months and the smoke from the farmers burning their crops has taken over our city. For about 2 weeks it has been so hazy that you can’t see the mountains and the weather apps tell you not to go outside, or better yet they just say “smoke” as the form of weather for the day. You pretty quickly forget what it was like when the sky was blue and the mountains were shining in the sun. What it was like when the grass was green and you didn’t have to keep all your doors and windows shut all the time. A reality I never knew existed and certainly never expected I’d have to deal with.

So last night I returned home from another gray day and was reading in my bed when I heard droplets on my tin carport. When I tell you I literally ran from my room to unlock my front doors as fast as I possibly could, I’m not being dramatic. I stood and watched as it began to pour down over my little house in Thailand. The most refreshing feeling of cool winds and stingy cold drops hitting my cheeks, I felt the Lord refresh my soul as He refreshed the earth around me. I cried as I for the first time truly understood refreshment in a way I never have before…”

As you can see some of this book will be the personal things I’ve experienced, some will be informational about literally how to take care of plants, but of course most will be what this all has to do with Jesus.

I have truly been having such an incredible time working on this and am beyond excited about what this book will become. Thanks for your support as I begin this new chapter!

I resonate so much with all of this Rissa. I'm so thankful you are stepping forward and relaying all of these little lessons and metaphors into words for us to read. God speaks through nature so clearly with me too. There's a little quote I read recently that said, "God spoke to me through flowers yesterday and I almost missed it because I was looking for words". Isn't that true? Holy messages are not always through words - He is speaking through the natural earth all the time. Love you, AL

Hi Rissa! It never ceases to amaze me how Jesus has captured your heart and from the overflow we receive such a refreshing watering of our spirits through God's implantation in your heart. That's how God's Kingdom flourishes and grows. Thank you for being faithful to the Lord's promptings and allowing the seeds to be sown and watered and grown and pruned. You are a gift!! Love you. Dear Rissa, ahhhh I could just feel the refreshing rain. I love all the verses in God's word that talk about rain and weather! Praying God meet you and use you mightily through your writing and your love and work with the children.

Rissa, I'm excited for you to use your gift of writing and your love for plants to help people understand the stages of their growth with Christ. I liked what you said about discovering the things you love and why you love them and allowing those things to reveal God's unique design and purpose for your life. It's encouraging to watch you use your life for God's glory. Can't wait to hear more about the book. We love you! Seth (and Melissa)
